Tod Urquhart has more than 15 years of experience in digitalisation and product traceability including software systems, regulatory compliance, process efficiency and supply chain visibility. He has worked with Pfizer, GSK, Novartis, Merck, Danone, and the Stevanato Group.
Currently he is a pharma industry advisor working in traceability of injectable medicines.
He was also the chair of an ISPE Community of Practise [CoP] and chair of the Filling & Inspection working group who are creating an industry Good Practise Guide for the use and implementation of unique containers across the parenteral manufacturing supply chain.
As the chair of the ISPE working group on container serialisation, Tod Urquhart will outline how an industry working group, created a guidance document for parenteral container serialisation.
PRESENTATION TITLE: “Towards the batch report of one” - Delivering unit-level traceability across machines and batches.
WHEN: October 9th, 10:00
ABSTRACT: modern parenteral manufacturing operations are driving the need for greater precision and visibility in each process to supplement traditional control strategies. Unit-level traceability will contribute to increased transparency and deliver data-based decisions which in turn reduce risk and improve patient safety by addressing several challenges in the manufacturing of parenteral medicines.
While the business case and benefits are clear, achieving traceability across the entire manufacturing process from glass manufacturing through filling to automated inspection and packaging needs careful planning and integration.
This presentation will challenge common misconceptions around unit-level traceability and discuss what it takes to deliver traceability across a whole production line without a UID associated with the container. This presentation will cover process parameters, including processing speeds and data collection requirements using the available Unique Identification [UID] technologies, and the data definitions recommended by the ISPE Filling and Inspection working group.
It will also outline the requirements for a traceability “best practice” including a proposal for a UID data management architecture and make the argument that line traceability cannot be achieved using only the shift register due to inherent weaknesses. The conclusions brought forward in this presentation draw on the presenter’s work on traceability in the ISPE, a PoC with world-leading component suppliers and early adopters of traceability technology.

Andrew Singer has worked at PharmaSphere since 2012 in a variety of roles, most recently serving as QA Director. In addition to other roles and responsibilities,
Andrew has been PharmaSphere’s implementation lead on global initiatives related to The Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) and pharmaceutical traceability more generally since prior to the law’s passage in November 2013.
Andrew led PharmaSphere’s effort to design, qualify, and implement an automated serialized packaging line at its manufacturing site in Syracuse, NY.
PRESENTATION TITLE: "A Leap Towards the Future: Centralizing Packaging Operations and Creating Efficiency Using Yudoo and OEE"
WHEN: October 9th, 11:00
ABSTRACT: This session highlights the power of modernizing serialized packaging operations. This case study will analyze the systems and processes that were upgraded on a line that had previously been a manual packaging and serialization operation. Attendees will learn about how Sea Vision’s Yudoo and OEE can centralize both the packaging and serialization processes, and create efficiencies even beyond those created by automated packaging.

David Attisano is a mechanical engineer specializing in data analysis and technologies applied to the motorcycle industry. After earning his degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2001, he completed a Master’s in Vehicle Engineering in 2002. His professional career began with a brief experience at the FIAT Group, but in 2004 he joined Ducati Corse—the racing division of the renowned motorcycle manufacturer—as a Data Analyst and Engine Control Engineer.
In 2011, he was promoted to Head of Vehicle and Engine Control Development, and in 2014 he took charge of a newly formed team dedicated to Data and Performance Analysis, with the goal of optimizing motorcycle performance through data collected during tests and races. Since 2018, he has also collaborated with the Research & Development department of Ducati Motor Holding, for the transfer of know-how and technologies developed by Ducati Corse to the Ducati’s product line.
Currently, Attisano serves as Head of Data Analysis for both the Racing Division and the R&D department, where he also explores the application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to support system modeling and drive product development decisions. He is the author of scientific publications on topics such as Deep Learning, Neural Networks, and Predictive Analysis.
